Punjab Begins Providing Free Legal Aid to Indigent Prisoners
Prisoners who cannot afford legal representation for their cases will receive free legal aid: Spokesperson
Lahore (Monitoring Desk): The Punjab government has initiated the provision of free legal aid to impoverished prisoners across the province. According to the spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, free legal aid committees have been established in all 43 jails throughout Punjab.
These committees have been set up in collaboration with the Punjab Bar Council and district bar associations.
The spokesperson explained that prisoners who cannot afford legal representation for their cases will receive free legal aid. Eligible prisoners can submit their requests to their respective jail superintendents, who will facilitate meetings with lawyers.
In total, 447 lawyers have been included in the free legal aid committees across the province. The distribution is as follows: 45 lawyers in Lahore Division, 90 in Gujranwala Division, 70 in Rawalpindi, 47 in Faisalabad Division, 45 in Multan, 24 in Sargodha, 55 in Bahawalpur Division, 55 in Sahiwal, and 16 in Dera Ghazi Khan.
