England Declines to Host PSL 10 Matches

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) cited the unavailability of their stadiums as the reason for their refusal: Sources

Karachi (Monitoring Desk): England has turned down the offer to host matches for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Several months ago, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to move the PSL 10 playoffs and final to another country. England was considered a favored option, and franchise owners inquired about the costs and arrangements. They were informed that an official would visit England to review the setup.

Sources have recently revealed that England has officially declined the hosting opportunity. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) cited the unavailability of their stadiums as the reason for their refusal. Some PCB officials are now proposing the UAE as an alternative venue. However, the extreme heat in May could pose significant challenges for playing matches in the UAE.

The proposed dates for PSL 10 are from April 10 to May 25, overlapping with the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule. Franchise owners are concerned that this overlap might affect the availability of key foreign players for the PSL.

The franchise owners had previously written to the PCB regarding issues such as their share of profits from the ninth edition of PSL and other matters, but they have yet to receive a response from the PCB. Recently, a senior PCB official contacted the owners by phone and suggested that a governing council meeting be convened soon.

Additional Information:

PCB’s Official Statement:** According to the PCB’s official website, they are actively exploring alternative options for hosting PSL 10 matches. The board is in discussions with various stakeholders to finalize the arrangements and ensure a successful tournament.

Alternative Venues:** The UAE has been mentioned as a potential alternative. The PCB is considering the feasibility of hosting the matches there, given the weather conditions and other logistical aspects.

Franchise Concerns:** Franchise owners have expressed concerns about the impact of scheduling conflicts with the IPL and the possible absence of high-profile players. They are seeking clarity and resolution from the PCB.
