Khawaja Asif Criticizes Imran Khan and Discusses 9 May Incidents
Until the matter of May 9 is resolved, no negotiations will be possible: Khawaja Asif
Islamabad (Monitoring Desk): In a recent interview, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif criticized Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and reflected on the events of May 9. Asif emphasized that Khan, who has been ousted from power, should be aware that “retribution is ruthless.”
Speaking to a private TV channel, Asif commented on the situation in Bangladesh, stating that the Bangladeshi people have decided who the traitors are. He referred to the fate of statues of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, suggesting that history has delivered its verdict. Asif asserted that Khan should understand that retribution for actions taken against the state and its institutions can be severe.
Regarding the May 9 incidents, Asif claimed that the legal system has not adequately addressed the cases related to that day. He criticized the handling of these cases, suggesting that the response should be more decisive. He stated, “A person who has been removed from power incited rebellion against the unity of the Pakistan Armed Forces. Until the matter of May 9 is resolved, no negotiations will be possible.”
Asif also noted that individuals involved in the May 9 events are still receiving legal support, and the courts are not delivering the necessary judgments. He highlighted that the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is supportive of the current government’s stance and mentioned that the government is not going anywhere.
Regarding remarks made by Nayyar Bukhari, Asif described them as personal opinions and asserted that the current conditions do not call for new elections. He added that any decision regarding early elections would be made by the government if necessary.
