Brave Father Saves 5-Year-Old Son from Mountain Lion Attack in California

Authorities have confirmed that the mountain lion attacked the child in the park: Report

Malibu, California: In a dramatic and heroic act, a father in Malibu Creek State Park has saved his 5-year-old son from a mountain lion attack. The incident, which took place on a Sunday afternoon, resulted in the young boy being injured, but he is expected to recover.

According to a report by TL A5, authorities have confirmed that the mountain lion attacked the child in the park. The boy was initially taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center for treatment and was later discharged. However, due to severe injuries to his eye, he had to be readmitted for further medical care.

The attack occurred around 4:30 PM at the park, which was crowded with families enjoying a picnic. Witnesses reported that the mountain lion grabbed the boy by the head and began dragging him away. The father, displaying remarkable bravery, ran towards the animal, fought it off, and successfully rescued his son. The lion eventually fled the scene.

The family’s relative, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that a bystander’s scream calling out the boy’s name alerted the father. This led to his intervention and the subsequent confrontation with the mountain lion.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) reported that about 40 people witnessed the incident. Some witnesses noted that mountain lions are increasingly appearing in the area and are becoming more brazen in their attacks.

The park has been temporarily closed as park rangers, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials, paramedics, and Los Angeles Fire and Rescue personnel conducted a thorough investigation of the site. Despite efforts to relocate the mountain lion, it remains in a tree and is considered a danger to the public.

CDFW officials have collected evidence from the scene, including the child’s clothing and bite marks. Forensic tests have confirmed that the DNA samples from the evidence matched that of the mountain lion.
