Paralympics: Athlete Disqualified for Flag Incident, Gold Medal Revoked
Beit-Sia set a new Paralympic record with a throw of 47.64 meters, earning him the gold medal: Report
September 9, 2024: In a surprising turn of events at the Paralympic Games, Iranian athlete Sadegh Beit-Sia has been stripped of his gold medal in the Javelin Throw event due to a controversial flag display.
According to media reports, Beit-Sia set a new Paralympic record with a throw of 47.64 meters, earning him the gold medal. However, his victory was marred by the display of an objectionable flag, which led to his disqualification and the revocation of his gold medal.
As a result of the disqualification, India’s Nodip Singh, who originally won the silver medal with a throw of 47.32 meters, has been elevated to the gold medal position. Singh, a 23-year-old athlete from Haryana, now holds the top spot on the podium.
The bronze medal was awarded to Iraq’s Nikhilawi Waldaan, who achieved a throw of 40.46 meters.
The Paralympic Legal Committee stated that Sadegh Beit-Sia was disqualified due to the inappropriate display of the flag and conduct, leading to his removal from the event and the subsequent redistribution of medals.
