Apple Unveils AI-Powered iPhone 16, New Watches, and AirPods at Launch Event

The iPhone 16 is equipped with Apple Intelligence, the company's new AI-driven software: Report

Cupertino, California, September 9 Apple held its highly anticipated product launch on Monday, revealing the new iPhone 16, which showcases the company’s latest advancements in artificial intelligence. The announcement comes just hours after Chinese competitor Huawei began accepting orders for its innovative tri-fold phone.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, heralded the iPhone 16 as the beginning of a new era in smartphone technology. “The next generation of iPhone has been designed with Apple Intelligence at its core. This marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Apple,” Cook stated during the event.

The iPhone 16 is equipped with Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI-driven software that aims to enhance its personal assistant, Siri, and improve camera functionality. With advanced object recognition and contextual understanding, Apple Intelligence promises a more intuitive and personalized user experience.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, emphasized the impact of this new AI capability: “Apple Intelligence is a leap forward for Siri, making interactions more natural, contextually aware, and tailored to individual users.”

A beta version of Apple Intelligence will be available in the U.S. next month, with support for other English dialects coming in December. Additional language versions, including Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish, are slated for release next year.

The iPhone 16 will feature the new A18 chip and an aluminum back, along with a customizable button for enhanced camera controls. Pricing starts at $799 for the standard model and $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus.

In addition to the standard models, Apple introduced the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, which come with the more powerful A18 Pro chip. These models boast advanced AI features such as photo shoot optimization and professional-level audio editing tools. The iPhone 16 Pro is priced at $999, while the 16 Pro Max starts at $1,199.

The new iPhone chips leverage the latest Arm architecture to accelerate AI tasks, enhancing overall performance and future-proofing the device. Nabila Popal, an analyst at International Data Corp, noted, “Existing iPhone users with devices older than 3-4 years will find compelling reasons to upgrade, particularly as Apple Intelligence features continue to evolve and expand.”

Despite the excitement surrounding the launch, Apple shares experienced a slight dip of 0.2% in late afternoon trading.

In contrast, Huawei’s tri-fold phone has already amassed over 3 million pre-orders, reflecting strong demand in China. This underscores Huawei’s resilience in the face of U.S. sanctions and highlights the competitive landscape Apple faces, especially as Chinese consumers increasingly seek advanced AI features.
