Hafiz Hamdullah: Opposition and Allied Parties Unaware of Constitutional Amendments
Hafiz Hamdullah: "Who Is Pressuring You? Why the Urgency? The Entire Government Is Dependent on Maulana Fazlur Rehman"
Lahore – Hafiz Hamdullah, a senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), has criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the proposed constitutional amendments, stating that neither the opposition nor the allied parties have been informed about the details. In a conversation with a private TV channel, he expressed concerns that even cabinet members are kept in the dark about these amendments.
Hamdullah questioned why the details of the constitutional amendments are being concealed if they are genuinely in the national interest. He raised concerns about whether these amendments are intended to enhance the independence of the judiciary or to control it. He stated that if the government shares the draft of the amendments, his party will provide feedback.
He further questioned the urgency and secrecy of the process, asking, “Who is pressuring you, and why the rush?” Hamdullah criticized the proposed extension of judges’ terms and demanded that the government reveal the reasons behind these changes. He emphasized that while his party does not oppose reforms in the judiciary, transparency in the process is essential for addressing their concerns.
Hamdullah also commented on the perceived influence of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, suggesting that the entire government seems to be dependent on Rehman’s approval regarding the amendments.
