Army Chief General Asim Munir Emphasizes Unity and Resilience on Defence Day

Rawalpindi: Speaking at a ceremony on Defence Day held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Army Chief General Asim Munir highlighted the ongoing struggle against terrorism and the need for national unity. In his address, General Munir underscored the sacrifices made over the past two decades in the fight against terrorism, affirming that this battle will continue until the eradication of terrorist threats. He praised the nation’s resilience and the importance of maintaining stability through the National Action Plan (NAP).

1. Commitment to Counter-Terrorism: General Munir emphasized that the sacrifices in the long and arduous war against terrorism have contributed to Pakistan’s sovereignty and gradual stability. He reassured that the fight against terrorism, including the struggle against the so-called Khawarij and extremist groups, will persist until the complete elimination of such threats.
2. National Stability and the National Action Plan: He clarified that the concept of ‘Aazm-e-Istiqbaal’ (Commitment to Stability) does not involve large-scale operations displacing local populations but is crucial for national integrity. The NAP represents a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism and extremism, integrating national and state-level efforts.
3. Rejection of Division and Extremism: General Munir called for unity, urging citizens to transcend religious intolerance and fully protect minority rights as per the Constitution of Pakistan. He stressed the importance of preventing political differences from escalating into hatred.
4. Honoring Martyrs and Veterans: The Army Chief paid tribute to all martyrs and veterans who have safeguarded Pakistan’s integrity. He recalled various historical conflicts, including the wars of 1948, 1965, 1971, the Kargil conflict, and the Siachen front, recognizing the countless sacrifices made for the nation’s safety and honor.
5. Addressing External Threats: General Munir also issued a warning to external forces attempting to undermine Pakistan’s security and sow discord among the military and the public. He asserted that Pakistan’s armed forces and people are adept at defending their sovereignty and will thwart any nefarious attempts.
6. Vision for Pakistan’s Future: Emphasizing a bright future for Pakistan, General Munir highlighted that the essence of Pakistaniness transcends any divisions. It represents a unified national identity that binds together people of various colors, races, beliefs, languages, and regional traditions.
