April 26, 2026: The Pakistan Airports Authority has announced the introduction of an electric cart service at major airports across the country to improve passenger mobility within terminal premises.
According to officials, the service will be rolled out in the first phase at airports in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Multan. A tender has already been issued for the procurement of electric carts.
The initiative aims to facilitate passengers traveling between parking areas and concourse halls, as well as movement within terminal buildings. It is expected to particularly benefit elderly passengers, families, and individuals requiring assistance.
Rabia Salmi, Director Commercial, stated that passengers will be able to book the electric carts through a dedicated mobile application, making the service more accessible and efficient. She noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance passenger experience at airports.
The development follows a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, focused on improving airport operations and public convenience.
During the meeting, officials approved the installation of advanced screening machinery to strengthen security checks. It was also decided to introduce joint counters and implement a single-point checking system aimed at reducing delays and minimizing long queues.
Progress on the installation of e-gates was reviewed, with an emphasis on improving coordination among relevant institutions to ensure smoother operations.
Mohsin Naqvi highlighted that a unified checking system would significantly save time and enhance efficiency, adding that better institutional coordination is key to reducing congestion at airports.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to modernize airport infrastructure in Pakistan and provide improved services to passengers.
