Chenab River is expected to increase from 200,000 to 250,000 cubic meters per second: Report
Lahore: The Punjab region is facing a potential flood risk in its major rivers over the next 24 hours. Authorities have issued warnings about possible high-level flooding in the Chenab River and significant water flow in the Ravi River.
- Chenab River: High-level flooding is anticipated at the Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad areas. The water flow in the Chenab River is expected to increase from 200,000 to 250,000 cubic meters per second.
- Ravi River: The water flow at Jassar and Shahdara is predicted to be between 40,000 and 55,000 cubic meters per second.
- Other Areas: The Nullah Bein is expected to experience medium-level flooding, while the Nullah Palko is facing low-level flood conditions. The Indus River is currently experiencing low-level flooding.
- Preparedness: Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), stated that in anticipation of the possible flooding, the PDMA and local administration are on high alert. All necessary preparations have been completed to handle the potential flood situation.
- Advisories: Authorities have issued instructions for the administration along the Chenab, Ravi, and related nullahs to remain vigilant. Chief Minister Marium Nawaz Sharif has directed efforts to inform citizens about the potential dangers and ensure the evacuation of residents living near riverbeds.
