Arrest Warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Hamas Leaders Expected
Prosecutor Calls for Immediate Arrest Warrants for Hamas Leaders Yehya Sinwar and Muhammad Deif
The Hague: Arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant could be issued later this month. According to foreign media reports, Karim Khan, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has submitted a request for the issuance of arrest warrants not only for Netanyahu and Gallant but also for Hamas leaders Yehya Sinwar and Muhammad Deif.
In his request, Khan argued that immediate issuance of these warrants is crucial to prevent these individuals from obstructing or jeopardizing the investigation and judicial process regarding alleged war crimes. The Prosecutor’s request underscores the need for these warrants to ensure that the suspects do not continue their alleged criminal activities.
It is noteworthy that in May this year, Khan had already announced that the ICC was seeking arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant on charges of war crimes. In a July request, Khan had named three Hamas leaders—Yehya Sinwar, Muhammad Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh. However, the recent request excludes Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran, but retains Deif’s name, who was killed in an Israeli operation in July.
Israeli media reports suggest that the warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu may be issued within this month.
