Dorian Godon wins opening prologue time trial at Tour de Romandie

Bern: French cyclist Dorian Godon has claimed victory in the opening prologue time trial of the Tour de Romandie, currently underway in Switzerland.

The 79th edition of the prestigious stage race has officially begun, featuring some of the world’s leading professional cyclists.

According to ESPN, the event opened with a short individual time trial prologue, where riders competed against the clock over a 2.3-kilometre course. Godon secured first place by completing the distance in 3 minutes and 35 seconds.

The 29-year-old rider from the Ineos Grenadiers team edged out Sweden’s Jakob Söderqvist by a margin of just milliseconds. Portugal’s Ivo Oliveira finished in third place.

Pre-race favourite Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia finished sixth in the opening stage.

Following his victory, Godon was awarded the leader’s yellow jersey after the prologue in Switzerland.

The Tour de Romandie consists of five stages and will take place over six days, concluding on May 3. The opening stage will cover a 171.2-kilometre route from Martigny to Martigny.

First held in 1947, the Tour de Romandie’s inaugural edition was won by Belgian cyclist Émile Idée.
