Hassan Nawaz says Pakistan’s approach focuses on conditions, not individual bowlers
India–Pakistan encounters and the heightened motivation players feel in such matches: Cricketer
Karachi: Pakistan’s aggressive middle-order batter Hassan Nawaz has said that modern cricket is driven more by match situations and required run rates than by targeting specific bowlers.
Speaking during a private television interview, Hassan Nawaz commented on the intensity of India–Pakistan encounters and the heightened motivation players feel in such matches.
He said that while there is naturally an added sense of motivation when playing against India, the overall approach remains situational rather than personal.
“When you are playing against India, there is definitely extra motivation. You naturally feel like attacking their bowlers,” he said. “But in today’s cricket, strategy is more about the match situation. Honestly, I don’t focus on any particular bowler.”
He further added that at the international level, all bowlers are world-class, and batting plans are usually based on the required run rate rather than individual match-ups.
“If the required rate is 10, 12, or 15 runs per over, then it doesn’t matter who the bowler is—you try to score as many runs as possible,” he explained. “You prepare for the situation, not for a specific bowler.”
Hassan Nawaz emphasised that modern limited-overs cricket demands flexibility and adaptability, with players focusing on execution under pressure rather than targeting specific opponents.
