"Mind-Blowing NASA Images Capture Close Encounters with Asteroids as They Whizz Past Earth!"
The images were taken by NASA's Deep Space Network's Goldstone planetary radar, providing valuable insights into these celestial bodies.
NASA recently captured images and videos of two massive asteroids, 2011 UL21 and 2024 MK, that narrowly passed by Earth ¹.
These asteroids, classified as near-Earth objects (NEOs) and potentially hazardous asteroids (PHAs), came close to our planet on June 27 and 29, respectively.
The images were taken by NASA’s Deep Space Network’s Goldstone planetary radar, providing valuable insights into these celestial bodies.
The larger asteroid, 2011 UL21, has a diameter of approximately one mile, while 2024 MK measures between 394 and 853 feet across, comparable to the Washington Monument.
Notably, 2011 UL21 has a tiny moonlet orbiting it, which scientists were able to observe in greater detail during its closest approach to Earth.
The discovery of these binary systems is crucial in understanding the formation of asteroids. NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office emphasizes that no known asteroid poses a significant risk of impacting Earth in the next 100 years. Khakitv.pk
