European Investment Bank announces €160 million financing for Pakistan
An additional €60 million has been earmarked for clean drinking water projects in Karachi

Islamabad: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced €160 million in financing for Pakistan to support post-disaster reconstruction and water supply projects.
According to the announcement, €100 million has been allocated for the reconstruction of flood-affected homes in Sindh. The initiative aims to support the rebuilding of approximately 2.1 million homes damaged by severe flooding in the province.
An additional €60 million has been earmarked for clean drinking water projects in Karachi. Under these projects, two new water filtration plants will be constructed, which are expected to benefit around 2.2 million residents. The facilities are projected to supply up to 300 million litres of safe drinking water daily.
The projects are part of the European Union’s Global Gateway strategy, which focuses on infrastructure development and sustainable investment in partner countries.
The agreements were announced during the EU-Pakistan Business Forum held in Islamabad. Officials said that investment under the Global Gateway framework has contributed to increased development financing in Pakistan.
EIB representatives reaffirmed their commitment to supporting climate resilience, sustainable development, and improved living conditions for vulnerable communities. They emphasized that providing safe housing and access to clean water remains a key priority.
According to EIB officials, renewed investment in Pakistan is expected to further strengthen bilateral development cooperation, with an emphasis on community participation and adherence to environmental standards in reconstruction efforts.
